What is Bloemdal Hospital?+
Bloemdal Hospital (Pty) Ltd is establishing a licensed 200-bed private hospital on the southern side of Bloemfontein at Alicedale 2582. It is designed to deliver remarkable healthcare with respect, compassion and integrity.

Is the hospital licensed?+
Yes. Bloemdal Hospital has been awarded a licence by the Free State Department of Health to operate the facility. The site is zoned Special Use 103 by Mangaung Metro Municipality.

How many beds will the hospital have?+
The facility is planned as a 200-bed hospital with general medical wards, specialised surgical wards, maternity, ICU and high care, and a paediatric ward including neonatal ICU.

Nine operating theatres are planned to support elective lists, trauma, and specialised surgery including orthopaedics, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic and more.

Services span general and internal medicine, endocrinology, surgery and trauma, orthopaedics, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic, vascular, urology, ENT, cardiology, nephrology, anaesthesiology, maternity, maxillo-facial, ophthalmology, ICU/high care, paediatrics, neonatal care, emergency/casualty, and mental health services.

Will there be an emergency / casualty unit?+
Yes. A dedicated casualty unit is part of the design, with a distinct emergency entrance and pathways into theatres and critical care.

Will maternity and neonatal care be available?+
Yes. Maternity services include antenatal and postnatal care, with a paediatric ward that includes a neonatal ICU for vulnerable newborns.

Yes. Planned mental health services include psychiatry, clinical psychology, occupational therapy and social services.

Can doctors rent consulting rooms?+
Yes. Several GPs, specialists and allied health professionals in Mangaung have already indicated they will rent consulting rooms and use the hospital’s facilities. Visit the Partners page to register interest.

Who designed the hospital?+
The facility was designed by Hospital Design Group (HDG), an architectural firm specialising in healthcare facilities across South Africa and Lesotho, with a detailed Master plan proposal (2022).

Who leads the project?+
Prof. Lehlohonolo Mosotho is Founder and Executive Chairman. The board also includes Mr Patika Albert Mathole, Dr Ralehlokoa Andrew Ranyane, Mr Zama Gcwili, Mr Seutloadi Thaanyane, Mr Sello Lejakane and Mr Moeketsi Wilfred Machogo.

How many staff will be employed?+
The company plans to employ approximately 247 permanent staff members, including the company directors.

Which communities will the hospital serve?+
Primary catchment is roughly 5–7 km, including Lourierpark, Fauna, Fichardtpark and southern smallholdings. Future residential growth at Brandkop, Cecilia Park and Hillside View may add 15,000–18,000 units over time. Patients may also attend because their practitioners are based at the hospital.

What approvals have been secured?+
Approvals include a municipal traffic study (2016), roads/traffic plan (2018), Basic Environmental Assessment finalised December 2017, Centlec electrical supply approval (2018), Mangaung Special Use 103 zoning, and the Free State DoH hospital licence.
